Too large to be displayed in his home, he asked the director of the neighboring Meunyckenhof residential care center to present it in his establishment. A request that the man immediately accepted. So Jacky started working and ten months later the puzzle was completed. Except that…
One piece
Jacky is probably the unluckiest 72-year-old Belgian in the world. The reason ? When assembling the 54,000-piece puzzle, he had already discovered at the end that one was missing. Rebelote this time! He speaks on this subject to our colleagues at NB.
“This puzzle is only available in America. I had been trying to order these from Europe for several years. I first tried through Amazon, but they didn’t want to ship to Europe. I don’t know exactly why, but I was finally able to acquire the puzzle on a second-hand site through a Dutchman. Initially, he asked for a slightly high price, but he ultimately chose to lower the price from 800 to 550 euros,” he says.

Two Arlonaises qualified for the final of the world puzzle championship: “The level was extremely high! I took an hour and a minute, and they took 32 minutes.”
He continues: “As usual, a piece was missing, but we camouflaged it a little. My wife repainted it slightly to make it less visible. One piece was too long and another too short. With the previous puzzle I might order the piece, but unfortunately that is not possible with this puzzle. At first I thought the missing piece might be in another bag, but to no avail. It’s frustrating, but in retrospect, it’s not so bad now.”

Despite his bad luck, Jacky fortunately remains positive. It is therefore not a simple missing piece that will ruin his pleasure of having put together a 9m by 1.8m puzzle, even if the frustration, we understand, must be very great.
