The University will present the feasibility study for the Faculty of Medicine in January

The rector of the Universidad from Huelva, Maria Antonia Pena has announced that at the beginning of January the feasibility study of the School of Medicine.

This has been stated to the highest collegiate body of representation of the University of Huelva, the University Senate, chaired by the rector of the institution, which has held its traditional session in December, where it has reported on the UHU budgets for the year 2023, approved by the Board of Trustees, amounting to 97.39 million euros, 3.82% more than last year.



In it, Peña referred in his report to the status of the feasibility study for the implementation of the medicine degree at the University of Huelva, which “it’s already completed” to “present it at the beginning of January to the Ministry of University, Research and Innovation of the Junta de Andalucía”.

Also in terms of infrastructure, Peña has highlighted the beginning of the works for the completion of the building of the Data Processing Center (DPC) and, of course, the works for the construction of the University Residence, an “innovative building, with modern features, which will have the BREEAM certificate that accredits its sustainability”.

In the report, Peña recalled the figures regarding registrations in the academic year 2022/23, which have “helped curb the decline in student numbers that affects the entire Spanish university system”, counting 2,152 students as new undergraduate students, and 964 as new master’s students. Thus, as the rector specified, total undergraduate enrollment amounts to 8,678 students, while that the total enrollment of master’s degrees rises to 1,479.As for the total enrollment of own titles.

On the other hand, the University Senate has provided its favorable report to continue the process for the investiture as Doctors Honoris Causa to professors and doctors, Avelino Corma and Antonio Echavarren, both distinguished eminences in the field of Chemistry at a national and international level. , proposed by the Center for Research in Sustainable Chemistry (CIQSO) and by the Faculty of experimental sciences from the University of Huelva, respectively. For its part, this cloister has become aware of the activity of the Ombudsman of the University of Huelva During the 2021/22 academic year, it has focused on the attention and study of the 97 cases presented (14 complaints and 83 queries), all resolved with an average of 21 days of processing. In all these cases, the queries made by students (62%) and women (56%) predominate.

Teaching problems accumulate most of the cases (52%) and those referring to evaluation issues have a wide presence and significance in the interventions carried out (25%).

To this activity is added the work as commissioner of the faculty, representing it in different academic events, both at the University of Huelva and in other institutions, especially with the Andalusian Ombudsman, the State Conference of University Ombudsmen (CEDU) or the Network of University Ombudsmen of Andalusia (Reduan), constituted in this course and being the Ombudsman of the University of Huelva one of the founding institutions.

For the 2022/23 academic year These activities of attention to the university community will be maintained Huelva and its representation, also coordinating the preparation of the Coexistence Regulations of the University of Huelva and its Code of Ethics. On the other hand, the diachronic study of the cases dealt with in this Ombudsman’s Office since the 2010/11 academic year will be completed, so that we have a broader vision of the recurring problems in our university and that must be dealt with by the various bodies with responsibility in this regard.
