The Oviedo University You will be able to expand the places in the Medicine degree in the next academic year in a maximum of 23 places, from the current 150, according to what the general director of the University has advanced, Cristina Gonzalez.

González has attended the telematic meeting of the Permanent Commission of the General Council for University Policy, where the increase in places in the faculties of Medicine has been addressed. As she explained, the Delegate Commission of the Council for University Policy has agreed on the distribution of funds to increase places in the Medicine degree in Spanish universities.

The objective of the Ministries of Universities and Health is for all universities to increase their places for Medicine by a maximum of 15%. In the case of Asturias, 150 places are currently offered, so a total of 23 places might be increased, according to González. For this, the University of Oviedo might receive a maximum of 1.3 million, an item that must be consolidated in successive years.

The Asturian academic institution will receive 15,000 euros for current spending and another almost 40,000 euros for investments for each place in Medicine that increases for the next academic year 2023-2024, that is, a total of 50,000 euros per place. If, in addition, you increase your places in the same course by 5%, you will receive another 60,000 euros.

The general director of the University, Cristina González, has valued the planned contribution, since it allows universities to increase their places in Medicine studies depending on their availability and progressively. The Ministry of Science, Innovation and University will ask the University of Oviedo for the number of places it plans to increase in Medicine studies next year to transfer to the Ministry of Universities within a maximum period of one week, reports Efe.
