The United States government has just announced that it will impose more visa restrictions on travel agencies and tour operators that promote migratory flights to Nicaragua from destinations such as Cuba or Venezuela.
According to a statement from the State Department, the United States will restrict visas to travel agency executives and tour operators “who facilitate irregular migration,” something that was reported on Tuesday, July 9.
In recent months, Washington has imposed sanctions once morest executives of land, sea and air transport companies for the same reason. For example, this June, the government revoked the visa of an airline businessman who facilitated irregular migration to the southern border, according to investigations.
“This action expands a State Department policy announced in February 2024 targeting senior officials of companies that provide charter transportation by land, sea, or air and will now also cover senior officials of travel agencies and tour operators,” it reads.
The note confirms that the United States will be expanding its visa restriction policy under Section 212(a)(3)(C) of the Immigration and Nationality Act (INA), which restricts the issuance of visas to persons who facilitate irregular migration to the United States and benefit from the exploitation of vulnerable migrants.
Visa restrictions to the United States
In this announcement they detail that “our expanded policy will now also apply to executives of travel agencies and tour operators who provide travel services designed primarily for irregular migrants to the United States.”
Little by little, Latin American businessmen are beginning to fear the impact of U.S. sanctions once morest those who facilitate or are behind the flights of thousands of migrants to Nicaragua, who then continue their journey toward the southern border of the North American country.
“We will continue to enforce visa restrictions once morest unscrupulous transportation executives as part of our broader campaign to eliminate exploitative practices inside and outside the Western Hemisphere, in collaboration with government and private sector partners,” they concluded.
