The United States Department of Justice announced the filing of charges once morest the Sinaloa Cartel and the “Chapitos” faction. The new charges reside in the Southern District of New York, Northern District of Illinois and District of Columbia, once morest various leaders of what US authorities called a “transnational drug trafficking organization.” According to Attorney General Merrick Garland, this decision is part of the national strategy to protect families and communities from the fentanyl epidemic, which has caused thousands of deaths in the United States.

The indictments target 28 suspected criminals, including the three sons of notorious drug lord Joaquín “El Chapo” Guzmán, known as the Chapitos. The brothers Iván Archivaldo, Jesús Alfredo and Ovidio Guzmán Salazar have earned a reputation as the most violent and aggressive faction of the cartel. Along with their accomplices, the Chapitos are accused of mounting operations to flood the United States with fentanyl in order to supply the “streets full of drug addicts.”

The Drug Control Administration (DEA) ensures that with these actions a clear message is sent once morest the “Chapitos” and the Sinaloa group that the country will spare no effort to stop drug trafficking. The DEA and its law enforcement partners have decided to take proactive action once morest the criminal network most responsible for the fentanyl flooding communities. They analyze their data and the answer is clear. Most of the fentanyl circulating in the United States comes from the Sinaloa Cartel.

The charges presented this Friday are accused of different crimes of fentanyl and arms trafficking and money laundering, among others, the Chapitos, the main lieutenants and leaders of the Sinaloa cartel; the alleged manufacturers and distributors of fentanyl; the directors of his violent armed security apparatus; to the sophisticated money launderers who repatriate the Sinaloa cartel’s drug proceeds to Mexico; and to multiple suppliers of precursor chemicals in China to make fentanyl.

The Justice Department calls for life sentences for all defendants. However, for the six leaders of the most prominent cartel, he claims that they are not reviewable. The indictments also charge Chinese and Guatemalan nationals accused of supplying the precursor chemicals needed to make fentanyl.

The Sinaloa Cartel is one of the most powerful in the world and is largely responsible for the manufacture and import of fentanyl for distribution. The DEA seized more than 57 million fentanyl pills and regarding 6,000 kilos of fentanyl powder, the equivalent of approximately.
