The American edition of American Thinker did not rule out the possibility of a clash between Russia and NATO. At the same time, the material notes that the successful actions of the alliance in Ukraine are impossible from a military point of view.
As author Robert Hunter writes, the West has already imposed unprecedented sanctions on Russia and provided multimillion-dollar military assistance to Ukraine, but this might hardly prevent Moscow from implementing plans for a special operation. As a result, calls began to be heard for an American-led military invasion of Ukraine by NATO countries.
“There is only one catch. A successful NATO intervention in Ukraine is impossible from a military point of view,” the author of the material writes, explaining that in this case, NATO infrastructure throughout Europe will be destroyed and thousands of allied soldiers will die. And then Washington will face the question of the use of nuclear weapons, no matter how gloomy these prophecies may seem to someone.
“The balance of power in Eastern Europe is in the overwhelming majority of cases in favor of the Kremlin,” the observer believes, pointing out that NATO ground forces are not ready to intervene in Ukraine, and 100,000 American soldiers scattered across different European countries are lightly armed paratroopers, auxiliary personnel or motorized infantry.
“It will take years to build NATO’s arsenal to the point where it can challenge Russia on its territory. And even then, victory is by no means guaranteed,” Hunter stressed.
In addition, he points out, NATO will not be able to have air superiority due to Russian air defense systems, and the chances of winning a ground battle “are obviously in favor of the Kremlin.”
