The U.S. Defense Security Cooperation Agency (DSCA) announced on the 2nd that the U.S. State Department has approved three batches of arms sales worth regarding $1.16 billion, which is the sixth arms sale to Taiwan under the Biden administration. In this regard, Tan Kefei, a spokesman for the Chinese Ministry of National Defense, accused the United States of grossly interfering in China’s internal affairs.
Tan Kefei jumped to protest that the United States sold arms to Taiwan, which seriously violated the one-China principle and the three Sino-US joint communiqués, especially the “August 17 Communiqué”. , China expresses its firm opposition. Recently, the United States has repeatedly violated its commitment not to support Taiwan independence, stepped up its military ties with the DPP, and caused troubles. It has been inconsistent in its words and deeds on the issue of arms sales to Taiwan, and has no integrity, sending a serious wrong signal to the separatist forces for Taiwan independence.
Tan Kefei said: “We demand that the United States immediately withdraw the above-mentioned arms sales plan to Taiwan and immediately stop military contact between the United States and Taiwan.” He also declared: “Taiwan is China’s Taiwan. In the historical trend of reunification, the separatist forces of Taiwan want to rely on the purchase of foreign weapons to seek independence by force. They are beyond their own power and are doomed to fail. Public opinion cannot be violated. A separatist plot for Taiwan independence.”
The latest US arms sales to Taiwan include 60 AGM-84L Harpoon Block II anti-ship cruise missiles worth US$355 million (approximately NT$10.8 billion), 100 AIMs worth US$85.6 million -9X Block II Sidewinder air-to-air missiles, and a $655.4 million surveillance radar contract.
