The United Nations reveals the death toll in Ukraine since the start of the war

The United Nations announced on Wednesday that it had recorded the killing of regarding 230 civilians in Ukraine Among them are 15 children since the start of the Russian military operation on Ukraine a week ago, and the real toll is likely to be much higher.

The Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights said that it had recorded 752 civilian casualties in Ukraine, with 227 dead and 525 wounded, since the war began on February 24 until midnight on Tuesday.

“The commission believes that the real numbers are much higher,” she added in a statement.

It noted that “receipt of information from some locations where intense hostilities took place has been delayed and that many reports are still awaiting confirmation.”

The United Nations human rights body explained that most of the human damage “caused by the use of explosive weapons with wide-area effect, including heavy artillery shelling, multiple missile launch systems, and air strikes.”

OHCHR noted that this figure is “higher than the total number of civilian casualties recorded by the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights in the conflict zone in eastern Ukraine” from 2012 to 2018.

The death toll is also more than double the 102 death toll reported on Monday by UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Michelle Bachelet.

On Sunday, the Ukrainian Ministry of Health announced that 352 civilians had been killed, and on Tuesday said 16 children had died.

According to United Nations statistics, among the dead, 31 men, 25 women, six boys and three girls have been identified.

The Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights stated that the gender of six children and 156 adults was not yet known.
