The United Nations calls for “maximum restraint” after alleged violation of the ceasefire in Ukraine

This Thursday Ukraine accused the separatists of break the ceasefire in a village near Lugansk. Observers from the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) say there were violations. The separatists denounce Kiev for shooting at them in the area.

The exchange of fire generated an alert in the United Nations Organization. UN Under-Secretary-General Rosemary DiCarlo stated that “if confirmed, this should not be allowed to escalate further. We call on all parties to apply maximum restraint“.

DiCarlo issued a statement after attending a meeting of the United Nations security council for the conflict in Ukraine. For the official it is evident that currently “tensions in and around Ukraine are higher than at any time since 2014”.

The UN Under-Secretary-General stressed that “these problems can and should be resolved through diplomacy and full use of the many available regional and other mechanisms and frameworks.” The Ukrainian military said they received artillery fire and decided not to respond.

Archyde.com realize that the rebels accused the Ukrainian troops of attacking their territory. Representatives of the self-proclaimed Lugansk People’s Republic said mortars, grenade launchers and a machine gun were used in four attacks in the past 24 hours.
