The idea of laying out the Czech Trail began to sprout in Martin’s head shortly before covid on a trek in Canada. “I thought it was a shame that there is nothing like this here, when we have the best signage of the Czech Tourist Club,” he recalled.
After his return, he gathered an old group of friends, it took a year to launch the first official transition of the republic. He describes the Czech Trail as a non-commercial project of a group of enthusiasts who have teamed up with the Czech Tourist Club and which offers the opportunity to go on a beautiful and interesting journey across the entire republic. Either the northern or southern route. Together they count two thousand kilometers. “It was lying here, it was a matter of putting it together,” he smiles.
It’s for everyone
Today, the České Trail is not missing from the map of the world’s long-distance routes, as it is mentioned by the FarOut App – Formerly Guthook, the largest of its kind in the world. It includes long-distance treks such as the Pacific Ridge, Appalachian Trail, CDT, GDT or Te Arora in New Zealand.

Trail through the Czech Republic
“There are few countries that you can bypass,” explains Úbl, why the Czech Trail has become such a phenomenon. According to him, anyone can go on the journey. “It’s up to you when, where and how. You can miss it entirely, by the northern route, the southern route. By sections. Divide it into weekends. From west to east or vice versa. After the cottages or I will become. Slow, fast or run,” he assured visitors to the Holiday World fair who came to listen to his lecture at the weekend.
The trail follows marked hiking trails, detailed instructions with a description of the stages are provided on the website. There is no shortage of tips and advice from those who have already completed it. It targets specific groups: girls alone, those accompanied by a four-legged companion, cyclists, tourists with small children…
Martin encourages everyone not to forget the preparation before the sharp start and go to the test, for example, on the weekend. “I don’t take things I don’t use, I exchange things that don’t suit me,” he points out, pointing out that unnecessarily heavy luggage turns out to be the most common problem.
Many people walk alone
According to him, 300 or 400 people climbed at least one part last year. Most people plan their journey in stages. “Grandma wrote to us that when she set off with her grandson, Honzík was seven, and at the end he was ten,” revealed Martin, who was probably most surprised by how many people travel alone.
He usually goes out with a group or with a girlfriend. “We are on the trail every year, we put in 1,000-1,200 kilometers,” he reports. When asked which stage he likes the most, he answers that it’s always the one he’s on. “We started having a lot of fun crossing different islands and treks that no one goes on in the north,” he mentioned other goals, saying that he and his partner are going to cross the Canary Islands.

The journey can also be covered on special bikes.
He takes the Czech trail as a hobby. He works in a multinational company, where they are well aware of his passion and give him the space he needs. “For me, this is an important employee benefit,” stated Martin, who at the fair christened the second book Stezka Českem – new stories.
The money from the sale will once once more support the Sports Club of Wheelchairs. It is intended to motivate, entertain and excite the reader. “It contains a funny description of the stages, stories of people who set out, for example a man who is seventy, a girl with a one-year-old child, a fighter following two heart operations, a stroke, wheelchair users,” he describes. He still has plenty of ideas on how to improve the trail. “We always want to surprise people,” he explains with a smile, why he won’t tell them.
