The Union of Farmers of the Plateaux Region renews its governing bodies

In Togo, the Union of Farmers of the Plateaux Region (UAR-P) held this Tuesday, April 25, 2023 in Atakpamé, its general assembly at the end of which, a bureau of 09 members for the board of directors and that of 03 members for the Supervisory Board have been put in place.

Thus, Messrs. Mandjamie Wêtè and Sogbohoe Sewanu were reappointed for a term of three (03) years respectively at the head of the Boards of Directors and Supervisory Boards.

This meeting of delegates of farmers’ organizations from the prefectures and representatives of support partners also aims to discuss the results of the activities of the past year in order to identify strengths and weaknesses.

The members of the said agricultural institution also adopted an action plan and the budget for the next financial year. They also defined new approaches to improve the 2023 production and give new impetus to the said Union.

The delegates followed the activity reports of the board of directors and that of supervision which reveal that the UAR-P initiated sessions of restitutions to the producers, this with the aim of situating the cooperatives on the involvement of the relay farmers in the implementation of the 2022 action plan. It also supported 52 farmers’ organizations in the development and implementation of their action plans.

The representative of the prefect of Ogou, Ms. Sena Akuessia praised the efforts of the Union which have given a new breath to the producers of the plateaus. She asked the producers to work more in synergy to meet the challenge of their sector and ensure food and nutritional security for the populations.

In addition, she did not fail to salute all the cooperatives of farmers, breeders, fishermen and agri-food processors for their initiatives in the UAR-P, while nourishing the hope that the 2022 financial year and the action 2023 contribute to improving yields in the agricultural sector.

The assistant to the section in charge of training cooperatives (representing the regional director of agriculture, livestock and rural development), Mrs. Amouzou Essi Djigbodi explained that the ambition of the government in its multiple actions aimed at to revitalize agriculture, must benefit the peasant world as much as possible, especially the most vulnerable.

Created on January 7, 1997 in Atakpamé, the UAR-P currently has 2,145 producers in the plateaus.
