On November 20, 2021, an unidentified corpse was found on the beach of Goto City, Nagasaki Prefecture, Japan. The unidentified corpse only had the spine, hip bones, left and right femurs, etc., and the skull, upper limb bones, tibia, and fibula were all missing. When the remains were found, there was one intramedullary bone nail and 4 screws that were used to fix the fracture in the right femur. It is unbelievable that the Japanese side found that the bone nails and screws on the body were only sold to Taiwan, China, India and South Korea, so most likely not Japanese.
Afterwards, Japan compared the DNA of the unidentified corpse and found that it was not from its own country. Therefore, it sent a letter to South Korea for comparison, but no match was found. The Criminal Police Department of the Police Administration conducted a comparison, and found no match following the comparison. In order to find out the true identity of the remains, the Bureau requested the Ministry of Justice’s Institute of Forensic Medicine to assist in the comparison on August 31, 2022.
The Institute of Forensic Medicine then entered the DNA data of the unknown corpse into the system and compared it with the relatives who were looking for relatives. Unexpectedly, it was found that the unknown corpse had a first-degree blood relationship with three people including “Zhang XX” who were searching for relatives on file. The probability is more than 99.999%. In addition to the characteristics of the missing person provided by the family members who are looking for relatives, there is indeed a fracture fixation medical material placed in the right thigh, and it matches the characteristics of the bones provided by the Japanese side. It is confirmed that the unknown corpse was in July 2021. The man surnamed Zhang who disappeared on the 27th.
In fact, this Zhang Nan was a fisherman from Xiaomen Village, Xiyu Township, Penghu County. He sailed out to sea alone in the early morning of July 27, 2021, to catch small pipes. Unexpectedly, at noon that day, the boat was spotted by a passing fishing boat near Kongke Island, but the boat But there was no one there. After the notification, the Penghu Sea Patrol immediately launched a search, but no trace of Zhang Nan was found.
Now that the truth is out, the family has finally let go of the big stone. But finding the missing person is only the humblest request of the family. It is the last wish of the deceased to return to their roots. With the assistance of the Criminal Police Department of the Ministry of the Interior and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs , The family members also went to Japan on the 14th of this month to handle matters related to claiming the remains.
