The unemployment allowance will reach up to 1,300 euros

In the first half of 2024, the implementation of the new architecture of the individualized unemployment benefit will begin, which will be linked to the earlier working salary and insurance life of the unemployed.

The new à la carte subsidy system, based on the proposals of the Pissarides Commission, will initially be implemented on a pilot basis based on a representative sample of approximately 20,000 unemployed nationally and targeted geographical areas.

The amount of the allowance will not be linked to the minimum wage as it is today, but will be a function of the job position. In particular, it will be provided that the first period after the dismissal will be given to the unemployed an increased amount of allowance – closer to his salary – which can be gradually reduced as time passes, but without falling below the current limit of 479 euros per month.

Currently, the DYPA services are working on various models where the allowance will be divided into two parts: the fixed and the variable. Both will exceed 600 euros depending on the years of work, while a ceiling that will not exceed 1,300 euros will also apply.

Today, the dismissed person is entitled to an allowance of 479 euros from DYPA for 14 months (12 months + gifts), i.e. a total of 6,706 euros. Attention! The total amount that the unemployed person will receive annually will not increase, but will be paid in advance.

In the first three months of unemployment the benefit will amount to approximately 65% of the average monthly salary of the unemployed person in the previous 3 years, in the second quarter it will decrease to 60%, in the third quarter to 55% and then it will decrease to the current amount of the benefit unemployment, the 479 euros.

For example, if the dismissed worker received an average salary of 1,200 euros, he will receive in the first three months as unemployment benefit 780 euros. Then, in the 4th, 5th and 6th months he will receive 720 euros, in the 7th, 8th and 9th months 660 euros, while in the remaining months of the year the allowance will drop to the minimum amount of 479 euros.
