Russia’s aggression once morest Ukraine’s continuous attacks on civilians has triggered a humanitarian crisis, and international condemnation has continued. The US government officially announced that the Russian military had committed war crimes in Ukraine, and many countries also imposed sanctions on Russia. The UN General Assembly today passed a new non-binding resolution calling on Russia to “immediately” stop the war in Ukraine.
The United Nations General Assembly passed a similar non-binding resolution on the 2nd demanding that Russia immediately stop the use of force. At the time, 141 countries supported the resolution. Ukraine presented a new resolution prepared by France and Mexico at an emergency session of the UN General Assembly. The resolution was voted in favor by 140 countries at the United Nations headquarters in New York today, with 38 abstaining and 5 opposing. Applause followed.
South Africa proposed a resolution to fight once morest Taiwan. The content did not directly name Russia. As a result, it only received 50 votes in support, 67 votes once morest, and 36 abstentions. Countries abstaining included China, which urged negotiations to end the war, so it was not passed. The text of the resolution, which was adopted, explicitly named Russia, stated that it “demands the Russian Federation to immediately cease its acts of war once morest Ukraine, especially all attacks on civilians and civilian targets.”
The U.S. ambassador to the United Nations, Linda Thomas-Greenfield, stressed that the resolution appealed to “the one” who has the power to stop the violence, namely Russian President Vladimir Putin. Russia yesterday submitted to the UN Security Council a resolution on Ukraine’s “humane situation”, but it failed.
