The UN criticized the Russian Federation for the words about biological weapons in Ukraine

The UN has no information about any programs for the development of biological weapons in Ukraine. About it Friday at a meeting of the Security Council of an international organization said UN High Representative for Disarmament Affairs Izumi Nakamitsu.

Russia insisted on the meeting of the Security Council, having previously accused the United States of developing such programs. On March 11, Russian Permanent Representative to the UN Vasily Nebenzia repeated a still unsubstantiated claim that laboratories related to biological weapons are operating in Ukraine with the support of the US Department of Defense. Both Washington and Kyiv deny these allegations from the Russian side.

In the United States, it is not ruled out that Moscow is deliberately spreading this unconfirmed information – in order to carry out its own biological or chemical attacks.

US envoy to the UN Linda Thomas-Greenfield said on Friday that there is deep concern in Washington that Russia may have called the meeting as a red herring in preparation for an attack in Ukraine. “Russia already has experience of falsely accusing other countries of violations that Russia itself commits,” Linda Thomas-Greenfield said.

British diplomat Barbara Woodward called Moscow’s claims “absolute nonsense”, adding that Russia is “plunging into new depths today” and the Security Council should not follow it.

Earlier, Igor Kirillov, head of the Russian Radiation, Chemical and Biological Defense Forces, said that during the hostilities in Ukraine, the activities of a network of more than 30 biological laboratories commissioned by the Pentagon were uncovered. On Thursday, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, after talks in Antalya with Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmitry Kuleba, also spoke about the Pentagon’s creation in Ukraine of “several dozen military biological laboratories in violation of the convention on the prohibition of biological toxin weapons.”
