The Meta Quest Pro has been made official. This headset promises the best virtual reality (VR) experience. However, the advertised price is very high.
It was expected and we were not disappointed. During Meta Connect, Mark Zuckerberg’s firm formalized its long-awaited virtual reality headset: the Meta Quest Pro – which we had discovered via leaks under the name “Project Cambria”.
Meta does not go with the back of the spoon and asserts without flinching that this new product sets the new standard in terms of VR headsets. These promises go through several things, including a design that wants to be as premium as possible.
The promises of Meta Quest Pro
The Meta Quest Pro prides itself on having new “pancake” lenses on board, which has several advantages compared to the Meta Quest 2. For example, the optical system is 40% less bulky. Even so, you’ll enjoy a 37% increase in pixels per inch. The contrast is improved by 75% for better visual comfort.
This should allow you to read the displayed texts without any problems. Especially since you can attach magnetic face shields on either side of your face to make sure you block out surrounding light.
On the power side, the Meta Quest Pro embeds a chip designed in partnership with Qualcomm, the Snapdragon XR2+ Gen 1. Designed specifically for VR, this SoC promises performance increased by 50% while improving the quality of heat dissipation.
Improved controllers
Who of the controllers? These have also been improved. They can scan your surroundings with their own sensors, without depending on the helmet, in order to offer better precision. Also, the haptic feedback system has been the subject of particular care according to the Meta teams.
Note also that the Meta Quest Pro and its controllers load at the same time on a flat stand provided for this purpose.
Mixed reality on the program
Meta and Mark Zuckerberg also dwell on mixed reality – a term that wants to show that the ambition is to go further than the augmented reality that we already know well.
The promise of the Meta Quest Pro is therefore to interact better than ever with real objects as if they were in VR. The company also explicitly appeals to developers by inviting them to take ownership of the many SDKs at their disposal to create as many experiences as possible.
There is also a “movement SDK” which allows users’ avatars to be very expressive by imitating the real expressions of your face as closely as possible.
Partnership with Microsoft
Finally, Meta also announced a close partnership with Microsoft. You will be able to join Teams conversations in virtual reality. A Microsoft 360 solution dedicated to VR is also promised.
Finally, the two tech giants also teased the arrival of the Xbox Cloud Gaming so you can use Xbox controllers and play games like Flight Simulator enjoying a kind of super big screen while wearing your Meta Quest Pro.
The price of Meta Quest Pro is very high
The Meta Quest Pro is available for pre-order now and will officially launch on October 25.
The advertised price, however, stings a lot: $1499.99 in the United States. In Europe, count 1799 euros for the official price! It must be said that we expected a very expensive product. It is confirmed: this product is far from being accessible to all budgets.
