New episode of our consumer test series. As a reminder, every week we test products on sale in the five supermarket chains (Delhaize, Colruyt, Aldi, Lidl and Carrefour) by comparing the major brands to “white products” or distributor brands. The final score for each product is out of 20 points: 2.5 points for the appearance of the packaging, the appearance of the product, the nutritional value and the readability of the label, and 5 points for the taste and the quality-ratio. price. This week, we tested hummus.

Appearance of the packaging: overall, it mightn’t be simpler: transparent plastic packaging. It is therefore difficult to give a different rating to each, but the labels from Delhaize and Lidl were too simple. For Intermarché, we only found a trio of hummus, which is therefore more complicated to compare.
Appearance of the product: two products stand out from the crowd, with whole chickpeas as decoration which make you want to taste the product: Carrefour and Aldi. For Colruyt, we really appreciated the smell of the product. Conversely, we regretted the lack of smell of Lidl and Intermarché products.
Nutritional value: Nutri-Score A for everyone, this is good news for a balanced aperitif.
The big test of brands: rare people fall in love with chocolate éclairs (COMPARATIVE)
Readability of the label: it wasn’t great overall, even those who are average have some work to do. For once, it is the big brand which obtains the best mark. It’s rare enough to be stressed.
Taste: three products are failing: Lidl, Intermarché and Colruyt. The reason was a taste that was too light, or not fine enough. For example, the Intermarché hummus tasted just like crushed chickpeas. The big brand – Père Olive – is a bit disappointing, with a slightly too vinegary taste which makes it nauseating. For the rest, it was of a very good level, with a special mention for Carrefour, well above the others.
Value for money: no big price difference in this case. The big brand is more expensive but offers a larger pot than the others. Here in order: Père Olive (€3.89), Intermarché (€3), Carrefour (€2), Delhaize (€1.99) and Colruyt, Lidl and Aldi (€1.35).
