The Ultimate Heisman Trophy Rankings: Who Will Take Home the Bronze Anchor?

2023-08-27 21:28:47

Amid an ever-changing college football multiverse—transfers, expansions, and realignments that seem to change more than the stairs at Hogwarts—one of the foundations of the game remains strong, just when we need something to settle on. The Heisman Trophy has been the discipline’s bronze anchor since 1935, the same year Bear Bryant ended his playing career with the University of Alabama, the Hoover Dam and Social Security were created, and the first award of airmail across the Pacific Ocean, from California to Hong Kong.

Today, the latest player to carve his name into the cleat feet of America’s most famous college football statue—University of Southern California quarterback Caleb Williams—is set to find his second Heisman Trophy, trying to match a feat that has only happened once. What chance does he have? And what other players have a better chance of snatching the trophy from him? We polled 15 ESPN college football journalists to find out, and we’ll keep updating the rankings until someone makes it to the list of college football immortals.

Points awarded: 5 for first place, 4 for second, 3 for third, 2 for fourth and 1 for fifth. Betting odds courtesy of Ceasars Sportsbook (through August 23).
