Every minute, seventeen copies of the Uno are sold around the world, or ten million a year. Popular with children, teenagers and adults, the famous multicolored card game appeals to a very large audience – we have even seen the Blues play it during the last World Cup.
But despite its apparent simplicity, the Uno is a formidable generator of controversy, as players have appropriated its rules since its creation in 1971 by the American hairdresser Merle Robbins, and its acquisition ten years later by the giant Mattel.
