Article 1. The annual Ballon d’Or trophy is organized by the monthly magazine France Football.

Article 2. The Ballon d’Or rewards the best player in the world, without distinction of Championship or nationality.

Article 3. The reference period is between the month of August and the following month of August due to the World Cup in order to integrate the entire season, international competitions included.

Article 4. The Ballon d’Or is awarded according to three main criteria. 1. Individual performance and decisive and impressive character; 2. Collective performances and awards; 3. Class and fair play.

Article 5. The Ballon d’Or is awarded by an international jury of specialized journalists, with one representative per country, the first 50 in the latest FIFA ranking – before publication of the lists – for women.

Article 6. Each juror appoints five players in descending order of merit from a list (30 players) previously drawn up by the editorial staff of France Football, members of the editorial staff of L’Équipe, the best juror of the previous edition as well as Ballon d’Or ambassador Didier Drogba.

Article 7. The five cited are respectively awarded 6, 4, 3, 2 and 1 points. The Ballon d’Or is awarded to the player with the most points.

Article 8. In the event of a tie, the players are separated by the number of citations for first place. If the tie remains, by the number of citations in second place, then by the number of citations in third place. If the equality persists, a new round of voting is organized between the equals.

Article 9. Any dispute arising from the ballot is settled by the editorial director of France Football as organizer and president of the jury.
