The Ulm Wieland Group takes over Totall Metal Recycling from Illinois

The copper specialist Wieland from Ulm has taken over the US American scrap recycler Totall Metal Recycling from the state of Illinois.

The two companies announced this in early May. The acquisition enables Wieland to process a wide range of materials, including copper and electronic scrap, according to the maker of semi-finished copper products. Totall Metal Recycling serves industrial customers throughout North America, offers a variety of recycling services and currently processes around 100,000 tons of scrap per year, explained Wieland. The transaction was completed on April 29, the Ulm company added.

“I am pleased that the management team will remain with us in its current composition and will continue to drive the successful development of Totall Metal Recycling and Wieland’s recycling plans. In addition, this acquisition once once more underscores Wieland’s efforts to continue investing and growing in North America,” emphasized Erwin Mayr, Managing Director of Wieland. The company had already announced in February that it wanted to expand its recycling activities, particularly in Europe and the USA.

The head office of the newly acquired scrap recycler in east St. Louis is only regarding 25 kilometers from the Wieland foundry in East Alton. The copper processor’s planned recycling center in Shelbyville is also only regarding a four-hour drive from St. Louis.

In the 2020/2021 financial year, which ran from October to September, the Wieland Group achieved EBITDA of €511 million. According to the electronic Federal Gazette, sales were almost €5.4 billion.
