The city council of Slavutych announced on Saturday that the flag of Ukraine had been raised at the Chernobyl nuclear power plant.
Earlier, Ukraine told the IAEA that the Russian military, who had controlled the Chernobyl nuclear power plant since February 24, handed over control of it to Ukrainian personnel.
A report released by the IAEA on Friday indicated that three Russian columns left Slavutych and headed towards Belarus, and some of the military personnel were still at the Chernobyl nuclear power plant. “They are supposed to be leaving her,” the message said.
According to the statements of the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation, on February 24, units of the Russian Airborne Forces took full control of the territory in the Chernobyl region.
During the presence of the Russian military at the station, there were no excesses; it was jointly guarded together with the Ukrainians.
