The Ukrainian crisis has distorted Morocco’s calculations –

The Ukraine crisis has distorted Morocco’s calculations regarding the Western Sahara issue, particularly following the growing interest of the West which has focused all its attention on Ukraine, notes British journalist Martin Jay in a contribution to the Think Thank “The Strategic Culture Foundation”, believing in this sense that the United States can do nothing to help Morocco in its quest to rally the maximum support for its colonization thesis.

The conflict in Ukraine “has resurrected the question of ‘non-colonization’ which was dozing in the United Nations”, writes the journalist, stressing that “the more the West pours money into Ukraine (…) the more the UN and its member states support this trend, which represents the worst setback that Morocco can imagine on the subject of Western Sahara”. The author of the article further considers that “neither US President Joe Biden nor his Secretary of State, Anthony Blinken, can do anything to support Morocco, which is hoping for the return of former US President Donald Trump in office in 2024. “The worst possible thing for Rabat, which hoped to exploit Trump’s decision (who expressed his support for the Moroccan proposal concerning the granting of pseudo-autonomy to Western Sahara once morest normalization with the Zionist entity), was produced,” said the journalist, considering that a possible return of Trump is the “greatest wish” of Moroccan Foreign Minister Nasser Bourita and the Royal Palace.

The current tenant of the White House “has always opposed Trump’s decision” concerning Western Sahara, “but finds himself limited in remedying this situation”, affirms Martin Jay, who believes that Biden’s political opinions “are in contradiction with the idea that one country colonizes another” and aligns itself, therefore, with the resolutions of the United Nations which provide for a democratic solution providing for a referendum of self-determination of the Sahrawi people.

Journalist Martin Jay is a correspondent for The Daily Mail (UK) who has worked for several international media on Middle Eastern, African and European issues.

Foreign delegations undertake to transmit the message of the Saharawi people
The participants in the international conference of solidarity with the Sahrawi youth, representing foreign organizations, undertook on Sunday in Boudjedour (Sahrawi refugee camp), to transmit the message of the Sahrawi people and to make known their sufferings in international forums. This conference, organized on the sidelines of the 10th congress of UJSARIO and in which nearly 150 foreign participants took part, was used by the delegations to denounce and condemn the “flagrant violations” perpetrated in the occupied territories once morest the citizens defenseless Sahrawis by Moroccan colonial forces.

Approached by the APS on the sidelines of the conference, Salah Thouabta, representative of the Palestinian delegation, expressed, on behalf of the Ghaza Strip group, his “unconditional and absolute” solidarity with the Sahrawi people and their fight for freedom and independence. He affirmed to be “solidarity with the Sahrawi militants in the territories occupied by Morocco who are exposed to various exactions, violations and arbitrary arrests by the Moroccan colonial forces”.

“We firmly believe in the legitimate struggle of the Sahrawi people for their just cause and we are convinced that one day the Sahrawi people will wrest their freedom and independence from their lands”, maintained the Palestinian representative, before calling on the international community. on the necessary protection of the Sahrawi people living on their lands occupied by Morocco and to hold the Moroccan authorities accountable for the crimes committed once morest the defenseless Sahrawi citizens. The representative of the Spanish Labor Commission, Adriane Gonionne, for his part, carried “full responsibility to the international community in the continuation of the sufferings endured by the Saharawi people”, before calling for “an immediate end to colonization “. “It is our duty today to drive out Moroccan colonialism from Sahrawi lands by unifying the visions of the different parties in solidarity with the Sahrawis and believing in the justice of their cause”, estimated Mr. Gonionne. “The official Spanish position can in no way influence the position of the Spanish people with regard to the Saharawi question, which never ceases to reiterate its solidarity, to transmit the message of the Saharawi people and to echo the sufferings of the latter on the international scene”.

The representative of the socialist and freedom movement of Argentina, Robin Zanov, expressed, for his part, his position of support for the Saharawi cause and people who, he said, “deserve, at the like other peoples of the world, a decent life in freedom and independence”. Mr. Zanov reiterated, in this respect, his commitment to continue to militate alongside the Saharawi people and to work to make his voice widely heard, to put pressure on the Moroccan kingdom and to recover the despoiled rights of the Saharawi people. Initiated within the framework of the 10th Congress of the Youth Union of Seguia El Hamra and Rio de Oro (UJSARIO), this conference was rich in communications led by delegations from various countries, including Spain, Germany, Canada , United States of America (USA), Sweden, Ghana, Yemen and Palestine.

The communications focused on international solidarity with the Saharawi people and on the denunciation of human rights violations in the occupied Saharawi territories.

The work of the Congress continues for the third day with the constitution of a commission responsible for supervising the electoral operation of the secretary general and the executive office of UJSARIO, following adoption, by the participants in the meeting, of the work of the commissions of Congress.

Some 500 delegates representing the various members of UJSARIO, in addition to nearly 150 guests, take part in the Congress baptized in the name of Chahid Othmane Ali Brahim and placed under the sign “Mobilizing force and aware of the triumph of the decisive struggle”.
