The Ukrainian Army announced this Sunday that its troops have assumed full control of the border with Belarus, in the north of the country, as well as the surroundings of the Chernobyl plant.

“Today, April 3, the units of the Armed Forces of Ukraine took control of the Pripyat district and the area of ​​​​the State Border of Ukraine with the Republic of Belarus,” he said in a statement published on his official Twitter account. Facebook.

The ghost town of Pripyat has been in the nuclear power plant’s exclusion zone, since Friday under full control of Ukrainian forces.

Also in the last hours, the Ukrainian Army General Staff has assured that 18,000 Russian soldiers have died since the beginning of the Russian invasion of Ukraine, on February 24.

Likewise, Ukraine has assured that it has destroyed 644 tanks, 1,830 armored combat vehicles, 325 artillery systems, 54 air defense units, 143 aircraft, 134 helicopters, 1,249 vehicles, seven ships, 76 fuel tankers, 89 unmanned aircraft from Russia, according to the balance collected by Ukrinform.

The Russian Army has not verified these figures but maintains that its casualties are substantially lower than those declared by Ukraine. Its last balance of last week reported some 1,300 soldiers killed in the conflict.

Ukraine’s Deputy Defense Minister, Anna Maliar, also announced this Saturday that there are no longer any Russian forces in the administrative region surrounding the Ukrainian capital, kyiv.

“Irpin, Bucha, Gostomel and the entire kyiv region have been liberated from the invader,” Maliar posted on his Facebook page.

In the last few hours, Ukrainian troops have taken over thirty towns in the region, according to presidential spokesman Oleksii Arestovich, who has warned, however, that “tough battles lie ahead” in the south and east of the country, according to Ukrainian public television.
