The Ugandan president dismisses his son from commanding the infantry forces because of a tweet • Al-Marsad Newspaper

Al-Marsad Newspaper – Agencies: Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni sacked his son, Muhuzi Kaynerugaba, commander of the army’s infantry forces, today, Tuesday, following he threatened in a tweet to seize Nairobi, the capital of Kenya.

In recent months, Lieutenant General Muhozi Kaynerugaba, nicknamed “General Tweeter,” has sparked anger among some Ugandans who see his previous tweets as provocative and sometimes dangerous.

In an earlier tweet, he expressed his support for the Tigray Liberation Front, which is fighting the federal government in Ethiopia.

He also expressed his support for the violent rebel battles in eastern Congo.

On Monday, he wrote on Twitter: “It will not take my army and me two weeks to seize Nairobi.”

The threat to capture Nairobi angered his father, the leader who has ruled the African country since 1986.

A statement issued by the Ugandan army on Tuesday said that he was removed from his post and replaced by Lieutenant-General Kayanga Muhanga, as commander of the infantry forces.

Despite his dismissal from his position as chief of the infantry, Kainerogaba has been promoted to a four-star general and will remain a military advisor to his father, according to an army statement.

Some Kaynerugaba supporters say his tweets are attempts at humor and should not be taken seriously.
