The Radical Civic Union (UCR) asked this Monday the president of the Chamber of Deputies, Martin Menemwhich designates “urgently and without further delay” to the members of the DNU Bicameral because “that is the only pending step for it to work.”
They did so through a letter that they delivered this Monday to the Deputies’ ticket table with the signature of the president of the National Committee, Martin Lousteau; the vice presidents, Inés Brizuela y Doria and Luis Naidenoff; the heads of the benches of deputies and senators, Rodrigo De Loredo and Eduardo Vischiand the vice presidents of the blocks of deputies and senators, Karina Banfi and Pablo Blanco.
“If the previous government took advantage of its majority to block the operation of the Commission for two years, today we are witnessing a new institutional degradation in which this government does not even constitute it“wrote the top leaders of the UCR.
And they considered that “to such an extent it is this parliamentary control is crucial that your absence calls into question, even, the very validity of the President’s decrees of the Nation”.
The UCR to Martín Menem: “His persistent delay in forming the Commission can no longer be attributed to inexperience”
“More than two months following the renewal of the Chamber, following formal requests from different blocks, and with the members of the Honorable Senate already appointed weeks ago, its persistent delay in forming the Commission can no longer be attributed to inexperience in the position or to bureaucratic times“, they stated.
They stressed that “If they persist in their dilatory attitude, we will have the duty to act with all the legal tools at our disposal. to comply with the mandate of the National Constitution”.
While the Omnibus Law is being debated, a national survey showed the crack in the DNU: 48% reject it and 47% support it
The radicals added: “The lack of formation of the Commission is equally inadmissible politically. As you are aware, the President of the Nation has exercised the powers to issue decrees of necessity and urgency to modify or repeal countless laws of the Congress in vast areas of Argentine law.”
Furthermore, they stressed that “the exercise of these powers while the Commission is not established would imply give the President broad unchecked powerin a manner absolutely incompatible with the republican system of government provided for by our Constitution.”
