The UAE has established its global position as a landmark in developing systems and strategies related to the green economy, while it has become an international hub in supporting efforts to combat climate change and develop realistic models to reduce its economic impacts, according to a recent study prepared by the Interregional Center for Strategic Analyzes in Abu Dhabi.
Interregional added that the “National Green Agenda – 2030” constitutes a long-term plan to achieve sustainable development goals to achieve the most prominent benefits expected when transitioning to a green economy, as the “agenda” consists of five strategic goals, which are: a competitive knowledge economy, social development, quality of life, and a sustainable environment. He added that the UAE is preparing to hold two global events during the coming month of November and December, namely: the ninth session of the World Green Economy Summit on November 28 and 29, and the 28th session of the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP28) from November 30 to December 12, 2023. These are two events that support the country’s efforts to promote sustainability and the green economy.
He said that recent years have witnessed an increase in international interest in the concept of economics and ways to achieve it, within the framework of global endeavors aimed at exploiting resources and public and private investment in economic activities, infrastructure and assets that allow reducing carbon emissions and pollution, enhancing energy and resource efficiency, and preventing the loss of biodiversity and ecosystem services. .
He added that the green economy is characterized by its multiple environmental, social and economic dimensions, the most important of which are: contributing to achieving sustainable development goals, stimulating investment in nature, supporting economic development, and supporting measures to combat climate change.
The Center stressed that there are major requirements that the world needs in order to achieve a green economy and enhance its role and presence globally, the most important of which are: enhancing the role of the private sector in green investments, supporting partnerships between stakeholders, providing job opportunities, and reducing poverty.
