The UAE’s Commitment to Humanitarian Aid and Peace in Gaza | UN Event Highlights

The Permanent Representative of the UAE to the United Nations and other international organizations in Geneva, Jamal Jama Al-Musharrekh, confirmed that the UAE is working with the international community to achieve an immediate ceasefire in the Gaza Strip. It also strongly condemns collective punishment once morest the Palestinian people and attempts to displace them, and stresses the need for the international community to adopt Uniform standards for condemning violations of international humanitarian law.
This came during the high-level ministerial side event held on the sidelines of the celebration of the 75th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights in Geneva, under the title “The situation of human rights in the occupied Palestinian territories…the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and international humanitarian law.”

Al-Musharkh explained that the UAE, through its non-permanent membership in the UN Security Council, is keen to work with international parties and the United Nations in order to reach an immediate ceasefire and stop military operations in Gaza for humanitarian reasons, and restore calm to stop bloodshed, preserve the lives of all civilians, and provide Protection for them.

He said that the UAE, out of its belief and as part of its continuing efforts to stand by the brotherly Palestinian people, was keen to provide humanitarian aid, in coordination with competent international organizations, to the affected families, especially children, women, the elderly and the sick, pointing out that the UAE sent planes loaded with food, medical and relief supplies and basic needs. It established an integrated, fully-equipped field hospital inside the Gaza Strip, and received injured and sick children in state hospitals. In this context, it also organized, in coordination with the Arab Republic of Egypt, a visit for 12 member states of the UN Security Council to the Rafah crossing; To understand the suffering experienced by the residents of the Gaza Strip, and to see directly the extent of the destruction in Gaza, and the progress of providing aid and medical and humanitarian operations.

At the end of his speech at the event, Al-Musharrekh reiterated the UAE’s permanent and historic commitment to supporting the Palestinian people to achieve all their legitimate rights, and that it will continue its efforts to achieve peace through concrete steps and a practical plan to achieve the two-state solution and the establishment of an independent and sovereign Palestinian state, in line with Security Council resolutions. Relevant international matters and what is negotiated between the two parties with full international support.
