The UAE Embassy in Brussels participated in the activities of the sixth session of the Brussels Conference on “Supporting the Future of Syria and the Region” organized by the European Union, with the aim of continuing to support the Syrian people, in light of the continuing repercussions of the “Covid-19” pandemic and the challenges that exacerbated the severity of humanitarian needs, with the participation of Representatives from 55 countries and 22 international organizations.
In its current session, the conference addressed the most important issues and topics that affect the Syrian people and the communities hosting Syrian refugees, and mobilized international support to respond to the humanitarian plan. The role played by the UAE over the past 10 years was highlighted by providing relief aid, which amounted to more than 1.11 billion US dollars, to alleviate the suffering of the Syrian people inside and outside their country in Jordan, Lebanon and Iraq, as well as the contribution of the State of The UAE has provided $23.4 million in the Syria Reconstruction Trust Fund to support stabilization programs at home, in addition to establishing a number of camps for Syrian refugees in Jordan, Iraq and Greece, including the (Emirati-Jordanian) camp for refugees in Marjeeb Al Fhood in the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan and providing all basic requirements Education, health and other services.
On the other hand, Khalifa Chahine Al-Marar, Minister of State, participated in the ministerial meeting of the international coalition once morest ISIS, which was held in Marrakesh, under the co-chairmanship of the Kingdom of Morocco and the United States of America. Al-Marar stressed, in a speech during the meeting, the need to strengthen cooperation to confront the terrorist acts of ISIS, and to prevent the organization from rearranging its ranks in Syria and Iraq. He also touched on the situation in Afghanistan and the need to coordinate joint efforts aimed at achieving peace and prosperity for the friendly people of Afghanistan. He affirmed the UAE’s support for the coalition’s efforts to counter the spread of ISIS in Africa. He also stressed the UAE’s commitment to support all international efforts aimed at defeating all forms of terrorism and extremism by focusing on promoting the values of tolerance and coexistence, pointing to the UAE’s firm belief that cooperation and joint action is the most effective way to confront and eliminate terrorism and extremism, in order to achieve the vision of the UAE.
