Dubai, United Arab Emirates (CNN) – The UAE affirmed its support for efforts to find a peaceful solution to the crisis in Ukraine, noting that the visit of the country’s President Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed to Russia, on Tuesday, comes within the framework of seeking to find “effective political solutions.” .
In a statement, the UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs said, “The UAE is fully prepared to support efforts aimed at finding a peaceful solution to the crisis in Ukraine, renewing its position of calling for diplomacy and dialogue and respecting the rules and principles of international law.”
The statement indicated that Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed’s talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin “will address the latest developments related to the crisis in Ukraine, as the UAE seeks to achieve positive results to reduce military escalation, reduce humanitarian repercussions and reach a political settlement to achieve global peace and security.”
Emirati writer and academic, Abdul Khaliq Abdullah, said that “the president of the UAE is the only global leader who can use his deep relations with President Putin to stop the slide toward a horrific nuclear confrontation,” adding that his visits to Moscow “is a peace mission for Europe and the world and consistent with the UAE’s quest to achieve regional and global peace.
He continued by saying: “In critical times and acute crises, the world needs a brave leader who is listened to by everyone, who believes in peace, and who uses his friendships and credibility that he has gained through his words and actions, far from any immediate considerations. This is what the President of the UAE is doing on his visit tomorrow to Moscow, carrying a critical file, which is to stop slipping into a catastrophic nuclear confrontation.”
