“The Two Sons” by Bertolt Brecht in the theater act

Theatrical Group 2510 returns to Patras and to the ACT theater for the second consecutive year with the successful performance “The Two Sons” by Bertolt Brecht, a leading anti-fascist story, theatrically adapted and directed by Andreas Zafeiris. The show, which was loved by the audience and critics, will be presented for two performances only, Tuesday November 12 and Wednesday November 13 at 9:30 p.m., at the act Theater on Gerokostopoulou Stairs.

A timeless work about human nature, the beast within us but also the system that gave birth to Nazism.
For the first time in Greece, within the framework of the Brechtian concept of a theater that includes the spectator as an active subject, the spectators who wish to do so are given the opportunity to go on stage during the play and present their own “version” of a role . To choose, to clash, to make difficult decisions, just as every person does either in front of everyday life or in front of “history”. To become subjects and not objects in social becoming.

A few words about the project:

In 1945, shortly before the fall of Nazism, a widowed mother lives with her daughter, a member of the Nazi Youth, on a farm outside Berlin. Her son is serving in the SS, on the eastern front. 20 captured Soviet concentration camp prisoners work on the farm.

But one of them looks amazingly like her son and the mother, even though she herself used to be a member of the Nazi party, slowly begins to treat the “subhumans” differently.

But the appearance of her son, who wants to go to Berlin for the “final battle” accelerates the developments, putting the mother in front of difficult dilemmas.

What will the mother do? What will the viewer ultimately do? Are there innocent and guilty? Is there the possibility of neutrality or choice in a world of unjust violence and war?

**Interview with Andreas Zafeiris, Director of “The Two Sons” at the ACT Theater in Patras**

*Interviewer:* Thank you for joining us today, Andreas. “The Two Sons” has received a ‌warm reception from both critics and ⁢the audience. ⁤What inspired you to adapt Bertolt Brecht’s work for this production?

*Andreas Zafeiris:* ⁣Thank you for having‌ me. Brecht’s exploration of human nature‌ and societal ⁤issues resonates deeply ⁤with contemporary⁢ audiences. In “The Two Sons,” he tackles themes of moral conflict during a tumultuous ⁣period in history. The play’s relevance to our current global climate—where we often grapple with issues ⁤of justice, choice, and morality—motivated me to bring it to life on stage.

*Interviewer:* One unique aspect of⁣ your⁣ production is the ⁤interactive experience you offer, where audience members can step on stage and engage with the performance. Can you elaborate on this approach?

*Andreas Zafeiris:* Absolutely. This interactive ⁤format aligns⁣ with Brecht’s philosophy of‌ making ‍the audience an active participant⁤ rather than a passive observer. ⁢By allowing ⁢spectators to choose roles and make decisions during the⁢ performance, we encourage them to confront the dilemmas faced by the characters. It’s about ⁤pushing viewers to reflect on ‌their⁢ own⁤ choices and ⁤the broader⁤ implications in societal contexts, engaging them in an ongoing dialogue about history and ethics.

*Interviewer:* The narrative centers on a mother caught between‌ her past and the realities of war. What themes do you hope the⁤ audience will take away⁢ from this story?

*Andreas Zafeiris:* At its core, the play challenges viewers to consider their‌ own moral compass. It⁢ raises‌ questions about innocence and guilt in a world fraught with conflict.⁢ Can we remain neutral? What choices do we make⁣ when confronted with injustice? Ultimately, I hope the audience leaves the theater not only entertained but also moved to⁢ contemplate these critical ⁤issues in their own lives.

*Interviewer:* The performances are scheduled for November 12 ⁤and 13. What can attendees expect from the experience?

*Andreas Zafeiris:* Apart from the compelling story ⁢and the ‌interactive ‍elements,‌ attendees will witness a strong ‌ensemble cast bringing depth to these complex characters. The set and costumes designed by Theater Group 2510 will also enhance the intimate atmosphere of the ACT theater. I believe it will be both a thought-provoking and emotionally ⁤stirring experience.

*Interviewer:* Thank you, Andreas.‌ It sounds like “The Two ‌Sons” will spark important conversations. We wish you and your team the best of luck with the performances!

*Andreas Zafeiris:* Thank‍ you! We’re excited to share this work with the community and hope everyone feels inspired to join us in this exploration.
