The woman is a native of Brazil. Such an incident occurred because she had sex with two men on the same day. Nine months later, she gave birth to twins. When the twins started growing up, the young woman became suspicious regarding their paternity. She then decided to have the children’s DNA tested. The DNA of the man believed to be the child’s father was collected. But only one child’s DNA matched the sample. “I was told that I had sex with another man and he was also summoned for DNA test. It was positive. I was amazed at the results. I had no idea this would happen, kids are so similar. She said in a conversation with a local media that she was not suspicious at first.
Although this phenomenon is rare, it is not unheard of. It occurs when a second egg is released during the menstrual cycle and the egg is fertilized with another person’s sperm during different sexual intercourse. The scientific term for this is heteroparental superfecundation.
“This can happen when two eggs from the same mother are fertilized by different men. The babies share the mother’s genetic material, but they grow in different placentas”- doctor Tulio Jorge Franco, who treated the young woman, told the local news media, the doctor also mentioned the extreme rarity of the case. He said that there are only 20 cases of heteroparental superfecundation in the world.
