The Tunisian press praised today, Monday, the valuable victory of the Tunisian team “Carthage Eagles” 1-0 once morest Nigeria, which was among the strongest candidates to win the African Nations Cup currently being held in Cameroon.
The Tunisian team decided its match once morest its Nigerian counterpart on Sunday, with a wonderful goal from Youssef Msakni, to qualify for the quarter-finals of the tournament, where it meets Burkina Faso next Saturday.
The newspaper “Al-Shorouk” daily, in a headline on its front page, saluted the players of the national team and wrote, “We defeated Nigeria, Bravo boys.”
The newspaper added: “The impossible is not Tunisian,” referring to the difficulties that accompanied the meeting, including Corona injuries that hit a large number of players and the absence of coach Munther Al-Kabir from the bench, following he was expelled in the Gambia match in the group stage.
The newspaper also praised the player Youssef Msakni, saying that he is an “undying talent”, adding that he used to score beautiful goals during his successive participations in the African Nations Cup.
Msakni scored the only goal of the match with a powerful long shot, following he dribbled brilliantly and also caused the expulsion of a Nigerian player for deliberately roughing him up.
Veteran player Youssef Msakni, who is participating in the African Nations Cup finals for the seventh time, was also chosen for the Man of the Match award.
The “Al-Sabah News” website wrote: “The Tunisian national team lied all expectations and nominations and defied all the difficult circumstances and the numerous absences.”
He added, “The Tunisian team presented a tactical first step of the highest style, in which it succeeded in paralyzing the Nigerian team’s attacks, before Youssef Msakni succeeded at the beginning of the second period with an individual action by scoring the precious winning goal, which granted a deserved victory to the happiest Tunisian people. Thank you, men.”
Commenting on the victory of the Carthage Eagles, the “Digital Tunisia” website wrote in its French version, “Only a very strong Tunisia is eliminating the Nigerian ghoul.”
The site referred to the speculations of French coach Arsene Wenger, who nominated Nigeria to win the title, and wrote in an article, “Tunisia tells you no Arsene Wenger, your speculations are completely wrong regarding the Cannes champion.”
