The truth about the Colombian boycott of the Saudi League due to the Al-Hilal and Al-Ahly crisis

Saudi Arabia – A Colombian newspaper sparked controversy yesterday, Monday, due to alleged statements: “We were insulted” by the refereeing team that was charged with managing the Al-Hilal and Al-Ahly Clasico, in the Roshen Saudi Professional League.

The Saudi Professional League postponed the Al-Hilal and Al-Ahly Clasico, in the 28th round of the league competition, from last Friday to May 6, to give Al-Hilal a “rest,” before the second leg of the Asian Champions League semi-final, against Al-Ain of the United Arab Emirates.

Colombian international referee Wilmar Roldan denied that he or his crew felt “insulted” after the match was postponed, saying: “The newspaper that published this news is only looking for excitement.”

Wilmar also lied in statements to the Saudi newspaper Al-Riyadiyah, boycotting him or the Colombian refereeing crew from officiating matches in the Saudi Professional League, as was reported in the past hours, stressing that it is an honor for them to work in a competition that includes all these international stars.

The Colombian referee confirmed that the news of his knowledge that the match had been postponed after his arrival in Saudi Arabia was incorrect, noting that he was scheduled to come to the country through one of the European countries.

Wilmar revealed that he learned of the postponement while he was in this European country, after which he returned to his country, Colombia, without arriving in Saudi Arabia in the first place.
