Vilnius has been waiting for new trolleybuses for a long time. At least it seems that some are on their way to the Lithuanian capital.

However, the company “Vilnius public transport” (VVT) says that it is too early to be happy that new trolleybuses are already moving to Vilnius.
“The trolleybuses in the photo are indeed the ones ordered by UAB “Vilniaus viešasis transportas”, but it captures the technological transportation of the trolleybus in the Czech Republic, from one manufacturer’s base to another.
Currently, it is not yet on its way to Lithuania, and the first batch of new trolleybuses will reach the streets of the capital as early as 2024. in August”, – say VVT representatives.
Last year in the middle of May, it was announced that the company “Vilnius Public Transport” (VVT) from the Czech industrial group “Škoda” for 52.3 million. will purchase 91 low-floor Škoda 32Tr trolleybuses by 2025.
Then the mayor of Vilnius, Valdas Benkunskas, said that the capital’s public transport park was being renovated on such a scale for the first time in history: “I am even happier that the park is being renovated precisely with the purchase of trolleybuses. Regarding the sustainability of the city, the greenness of the city, it is very important that our public transport sets an example for the rest of the movement system and becomes an example of the pursuit of a neutral climate.”
Most of the funds needed for the purchase of trolleybuses – up to 38.23 million. EUR – lent by the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) with partners. The bank itself lends up to 30.58 million. EUR of own funds, up to 7.65 million. EUR was provided by the Taiwan International Cooperation and Development Fund. Another 10 million The company VVT has secured EUR 100,000 from the Climate Change Program.
It was then stated that the first new Škoda trolleybuses should reach the capital at the end of the summer of 2024, and the rest in the first half of 2025. The price of one trolley reaches almost 575 thousand. euros.
VVT still uses 160 Škoda trolleybuses with an average age of 32 years. The total average age of all trolleybuses in the capital is now regarding 24 years.
Some time ago, madeinvilnius.lt announced that the new Škoda 32Tr trolleybuses are 12 meters long, run autonomously, and can travel up to 20 km without a contact network. The trolleys also have a safety system – SOS and A-band buttons that record events on video, collision protection and automatic fire extinguishing.
