A statement from the defense of one of the accused, in the trial for the death of Lucía Costa Osores, the 18-year-old girl who died in October 2020 from burns suffered during an explosion in a bar in the town of San Miguel, requesting a psychiatric examination for the accused, led to the postponement of the second hearing of the debate that was to take place this Friday, October 6.

According to judicial sources, eleven witnesses had been summoned, but Priscila Lucca’s official defense (which replaced her private lawyer) filed an appeal so that one of the accused, the waitress who triggered the incident, be subjected to a psychological examination, consider that he is not in a position to face the trial.

Consequently, Judge Carolina Rubar decided to suspend the debate until a resolution is adopted next week on whether to accept or reject this measure.

Lorena Osores, mother of the victim, told the Télam agency that they are facing “a new delaying maneuver.” “We just want the trial to continue and now we are waiting on whether this expertise should be done or not.”

According to him, “our lawyer Liz Barrionuevo and prosecutor Ana De Leo have already announced that this issue must be resolved as soon as possible. After three years of waiting for the trial, it barely started, now we find ourselves with these obstacles.”

Accused in the trial are Priscila Lucca, Carlos Eduardo Oliverio and Marina de los Ángeles Ramírez; waitress, owner and manager at the time of the Zar bar in San Miguel, respectively, for the crimes “wrongful homicide and wrongful injuries.”

The event occurred on October 9, 2020, when Lucía went with a group of friends to that gastronomic establishment, located at 1189 Paunero Street in San Miguel. Before taking their order, the waitress approached and placed a can of alcohol near an ornament that had fire, causing an explosion and subsequent fire.

The episode was recorded in a video in which it is seen how the employee, next to the teenagers’ table with a bottle or drum, dumps the liquid into a smaller container and in a matter of seconds the explosion occurs.

As a result of the incident, a dozen people were injured, with injuries of varying magnitude and Lucía Costa Osores, who had been transferred to the Larcade hospital in San Miguel, died hours later.

At the beginning of the trial, the parents of the victim and some of those injured in the incident already testified, while for today another group of 11 people had been summoned.

Once the issue raised by one of the defenses is resolved, future hearings must be rescheduled.

In addition, another file is open due to the case, before the Correctional Court No. 2 of San Martín, which investigates the authorization of the commercial premises and whether it had the corresponding permits for the operations that were carried out in the bar. brewery, for that time of preventive and mandatory social isolation due to the coronavirus pandemic.
