Chad’s transitional president, General Mahamat Idriss Déby Itno, left the capital N’Djamena on Friday for Doha, the capital of Qatar, where the signing of a comprehensive agreement with political groups is due to take place. soldiers, announced the Chadian presidency.
“As part of cooperation between Chad and Qatar, the President of Chad’s Transitional Military Council, General Mahamat Idriss Déby Itno left N’Djamena on Friday for Doha. In the Qatari capital, the Head of State is paying a friendly and working visit,” the Chadian presidency said in a statement.
According to the local newspaper “Le Sahel”, the transitional president of Chad, during his stay in Doha, “will attend the signing ceremony of the agreement between the government and the politico-military (groups), on Sunday August 08” at the Qatar.
“All the protagonists are already in place to initial the document allowing the politico-military (groups) to participate in the inclusive national dialogue in N’Djamena currently scheduled for August 20,” said the same newspaper.
“On the sidelines of the inclusive national dialogue, several heads of state are expected in N’Djamena, in particular the president of the African Union, the Senegalese leader Macky Sall”, reported the Chadian news site “Alwihdainfo”.
Opened on March 13 in Qatar, the Chadian pre-dialogue should lead to a dialogue around the transition in N’Djamena on August 20.
As a reminder, since March 13, the State of Qatar has hosted the Chadian pre-dialogue, which brings together 52 political and rebel movements and the Transitional Military Council (CMT), led by Mahamat Idriss Déby Itno, strong man of Chad since the death at the front of his father, in April 2021.
Participants are expected to reach agreement on preconditions for an inclusive national dialogue scheduled for N’Djamena on August 20.
The inclusive national dialogue with the political opposition and the rebel movements should be preceded by negotiations with the aim of obtaining, among other things, guarantees on the security of opponents and rebels, some of whom have been fighting power for thirty years.
