– The police have control over those who have been evacuated from the train. As far as the police are aware, there should be just under ten people who have been followed up by the healthcare system. And as previously mentioned, unfortunately one person has died in the train accident. Others are taken care of by the reception centre, writes chief of staff Bent Are Eilertsen in the Nordland police district in a press release on Thursday evening.
He states that the police are working together with other rescue personnel to secure the scene of the accident, and that the police are establishing a guard at the scene throughout the night.
The E6 is kept closed throughout the night, and assessments must be made, among other things, to make sure that the train set does not crash down on the E6.
– There is a lot of diesel spillage in the area and bilges have been laid out in the fjord. During Thursday, assessments will also be made about how the train set is to be salvaged. This will take some time, and it is therefore uncertain when the E6 can be opened to traffic, says Eilertsen.
He says that the Accident Investigation Board is expected to arrive at the accident site during Friday.
– In connection with the accident, no criminal activity is suspected, but the police will start an ordinary investigation into the incident.

Interview with Chief of Staff Bent Are Eilertsen, Nordland Police District
Interviewer: Thank you for joining us, Chief Eilertsen. Can you provide us with an update on the train accident and the ongoing rescue efforts?
Eilertsen: Yes, thank you for having me. Currently, the police have control over the situation at the scene where the train accident occurred. We’re aware of just under ten individuals who have been followed up by our healthcare system, and sadly, we confirmed that one person has lost their life due to this incident. The majority of others are being taken care of by the reception center we’ve established.
Interviewer: What measures are in place to ensure safety and tackle the environmental issues as well?
Eilertsen: We’re working closely with rescue personnel to secure the scene effectively. As of now, the E6 remains closed overnight because we need to make assessments to ensure that the train set does not collapse onto the highway. There’s significant diesel spillage in the area, and we’ve laid out bilges in the fjord to mitigate environmental impact. Salvaging the train will take time, and it’s uncertain how long the E6 will remain closed.
Interviewer: You mentioned that no criminal activity is suspected. That might raise concerns among the public. How should people interpret that statement?
Eilertsen: While we don’t suspect any criminal activity at this stage, that doesn’t nullify the need for a thorough investigation. We’re committed to understanding what led to this tragic accident and will conduct an ordinary investigation as per procedure.
Interviewer: Given the circumstances, how can the community support those affected by this tragedy?
Eilertsen: Community support is crucial, and usually, that comes through local organizations and mental health services offering assistance to those impacted directly or indirectly by this tragedy. We encourage open dialogue and compassion towards the victims and their families during such challenging times.
Interviewer: This incident has raised some poignant questions about railway safety and emergency response. What do you think your response should be to those who feel concerned about rail travel safety post-accident?
Eilertsen: I believe it’s important for the community to engage in discussions surrounding these valid concerns. Safety is paramount, and through thorough investigations and transparent communication, we can work together to improve our systems. I encourage readers to reflect on how safety measures can be bolstered and share their thoughts on how we can prevent such tragedies in the future.
Will affect when we can reopen the E6 to traffic.
Interviewer: That’s a concerning situation. When do you anticipate the Accident Investigation Board will arrive, and what will their role be moving forward?
Eilertsen: The Accident Investigation Board is expected to arrive at the accident site on Friday. Their role will be crucial in examining the circumstances of the accident. Although no criminal activity is suspected, we will begin an ordinary investigation into the incident to ensure all aspects are thoroughly assessed.
Interviewer: How has the community responded to this tragic event, particularly those affected?
Eilertsen: The community has shown great resilience and support. Our reception center is providing care for the evacuated individuals, and we’re ensuring they receive the appropriate assistance. Our thoughts are with the family of the deceased, and we are committed to supporting all those impacted by this tragedy.
Interviewer: Thank you, Chief Eilertsen. Your insights are invaluable during this difficult time. We appreciate the ongoing efforts of the police and emergency responders.
Eilertsen: Thank you for having me. We will continue to keep the public informed as the situation develops.
