Ruiz was a journalist and presenter who worked in different media. Later he served at QAP and met Vicky Dávila, whom he married on December 9, 2000. From that union Simón was born.

In an interview with the program ‘Se dice de mí’ on Caracol Televisión, Dávila revealed that her first husband had complained of problems in one eye. He went to the ophthalmologist, but the specialist recommended he see a neurologist.

“Finally it ends with an examination that the neurosurgeon orders to rule out anything and there they find a very big brain problem. They tell him that he has to have surgery and He wanted to live and raise Simón so much that he had surgery”, commented Vicky Dávila.

Juan Carlos Ruíz underwent an operation to prevent a stroke, as a brain tumor had been detected. Unfortunately, it became complicated and he never woke up from an induced coma.

“He had been in intensive care for 16 days. Her family was very generous because she always let me be there. They always took turns outside the clinic, but everyone gave me that space to be with him those 16 days,” commented Vicky Dávila in the interview.

During the days he spent in intensive care, Juan Carlos Ruíz reached 30 years of age. However, Vicky Dávila was quite depressed and helpless in the face of the situation.

“On the last day I saw him so bad and I went close to his ear to tell him: ‘If you have to leave, leave calmly or from this moment let your recovery begin. Don’t worry, I’m going to make Simón what I and you have wanted him to be.’ After 20 minutes he died,” concluded the director of Semana Magazine.

For her part, Yolanda Ruíz, the journalist’s sister, assured that Vicky Dávila bore the brunt of the moments experienced in the clinic. In addition, she added that the family “thought it was a problem that had a quick solution. “We never believed the story would end.”
