In 2021, 8-year-old Talya died after being bitten repeatedly by at least one of the two Amstaffs in the house where she had been left alone by her mother. If one of the dogs was killed on the spot by the police, the second was entrusted to the SPA of La Louvière.
A few days after the tragedy, the Court of Appeal of Mons increased the sentence of the mother sentenced to 12 months in prison suspended for manslaughter by lack of foresight. She also settled the fate of Iron, the second Amstaff whose seizure was deemed illegal. The mayor executed an order returning the dog to the mother, thus condemning it to euthanasia, the latter having immediately made it known that she would not keep it alive.
Simple spectator of the drama or actor? The fate of the American Staff was euthanized this Thursday evening, despite the indignation of a hundred people, who came to shout their disagreement and share their support for the animal, in front of the barriers of its last refuge.
The veterinarian who had to send the dog away was repeatedly singled out for this gesture. She now breaks the silence in a message posted on her Facebook page.
“The information has gone around the world. Yesterday we had to end a life. That of Iron, an adorable dog, in good health. A dog who ended up in the wrong place, at the wrong time, and especially with the wrong people“, begins the veterinarian. “Since yesterday, I have been seeing horror messages scrolling about me. I am a monster, an assassin, I do not deserve to practice my profession, my office must be boycotted…. You cannot imagine the pain that your words cause”.

“Yesterday I ended Iron’s life, flouting all my principles and values, but I did it for him, for them, so that all the people who truly cared about him could surround him until ‘at the end. So that he can leave calm, without stress. Obviously, I could have refused, and he would have been taken away by the police, to be put to death in cold blood by someone he did not know”, she justifies. “I am not a monster, the monster is this unworthy mother”.
