A village in Egypt witnessed a shocking tragedy, as a high school student committed suicide by eating a poisonous grain, following he was bullied by his colleagues because of his poor eyesight.
On Wednesday evening, the people of Al-Mansha’ Al-Kubra village in the district of Al-Santa Center in Gharbia Governorate attended a mass funeral for the body of a high school student named Adham Jamil Sukkar, who ended his life by eating a poisonous grain following being bullied by his colleagues.
Major General Hani Owais, Director of Al Gharbia Security, received a notification from the warden of Al-Santa Police Department that the body of a third-year secondary student had been found in his home. Security investigations indicated that the student had excelled academically and suddenly fell into depression, which prompted him to commit suicide following some of his friends bullied him and uttered words that degrade his abilities and competence. They mocked him for not being able to see well.
The student’s colleagues said that their colleague had been in his home for days and refused to leave it or mix with his friends and answer their phones, while investigations revealed that he was oblivious to his family and ate a poisonous grain until they found him dead.
The prosecutor’s office, which conducted the investigation, was notified.
