Morocco’s trade deficit stood at more than 241.37 billion dirhams (billion dirhams) at the end of October 2023, a reduction of 6.1% compared to the same period a year earlier, according to the Foreign Exchange Office. .

Imports fell by 3.9% to MAD 591.51 billion, and exports by 2.4% to MAD 350.13 billion, specifies the Office which has just published its monthly indicators of foreign trade for the month of October, noting that the coverage rate gained 0.9 points to stand at 59.2%.

The drop in purchases of goods is mainly due to the decline in imports of energy products, semi-finished products and raw products, explains the Office.

In fact, supplies of energy products fell by 22% following the drop in imports of gas oils and fuel oils of 16.64 billion dirhams. The latter is dependent on the drop in prices of 17.4% combined with the drop in imported quantities of 10.5%.

At the same time, purchases of semi-finished products fell by 12.6% following a 61.5% reduction in ammonia purchases.

For their part, imports of raw products fell by 23.9% (29.14 billion dirhams once morest 38.27 billion dirhams) under the effect of the drop in purchases of raw sulfur of 61.9%.

Regarding purchases of food products, these show virtual stability at 73.27 billion dirhams. On the other hand, imports of finished consumer products increased by 12.1%, mainly following the joint increase in purchases of parts and pieces for passenger cars by 27.9% and passenger cars by 21.3%.

Imports of capital goods, for their part, increased by 14.6%, going from MAD 115.60 billion at the end of October 2022 to MAD 132.42 billion at the end of October 2023.
