The CIES Football Observatory published this Wednesday the top 100 of the most followed clubs on social networks. Real Madrid is ahead of FC Barcelona while PSG is 4th. Four other French teams are part of the ranking.
Real Madrid is definitely the biggest club in the world, at least on social media. The CIES Football Observatory published this Wednesday the ranking of the hundred teams most followed on Twitter, Instagram, Facebook and Tik Tok. With 363 million subscribers, the vice-champion of Spain is slightly ahead of his eternal rival, FC Barcelona, which has 342 million.
Ronaldo and Messi far ahead of all clubs
Manchester United, which completes the podium, is much further (203M). Behind, PSG is very close and occupies 4th place (187M). The other French clubs in this ranking are AS Monaco (28th, 20.8M), OM (31st, 18.3M), OL (41st, 11.1M) and Losc (92nd, 4.4M ). Juventus, Chelsea, Manchester City, Liverpool, Bayern Munich and Arsenal complete the top 10.
Note that Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi each have more followers than the top-ranked clubs, with 859 million and 582 million fans respectively. Al-Nassr, the Saudi CR7 formation, climbs to 19th place (32.2M). The highest ranked non-European club is the Brazilian Flamengo (14th, 49.7M).
14 South American teams present in the top 100
If Europe has the most members in this top 100, South America is also well represented with fourteen formations. Other less expected countries are placing teams, such as Indonesia (Persib Bandung, Persija Jakarta), Iran (Persepolis FC), Tanzania (Simba SC, Young Africans SC), India (Kerala Blasters) or South Africa (Orlando Pirates).
