the tool-free repairable and upgradable laptop that fights against planned obsolescence – LaptopSpirit

Presented earlier this year, the Luna concept is a project led by Dell in collaboration with Intel that explores new design ideas to make components accessible, replaceable and reusable. The past year has allowed Dell engineers to polish their copy and make Luna a project that might considerably simplify the repair and teardown process. And the possibilities of recycling would be multiplied.

Concept Luna

With more than 57 million tons of electronic devices discarded each year worldwide, Dell decided to work on an innovative repairability and eco-design process called Concept Luna. A project reworked to offer a tangible vision of what the upgrading of electronic devices might be. Dell uses to illustrate its concept the maintenance of our vehicles: we don’t throw the whole car away when new tires or new brakes are needed« .

The goal in all of this? Limit electronic waste by imagining a more circular organization of waste.

We need to move from the “use then recycle” model to a new cycle of “use, reuse, then reuse and reuse once more”

Although, for the moment, Luna is only a concept, it is also a long-term vision that particularly echoes the era of repairability indices and other anti-waste laws and as global warming climate is knocking very clearly at our door.
