Melcior Mauri, Abraham Olano, Laia Sanz and Núria Picas among others, in the team
Each has different goals in the ordeal of the Moroccan desert
Los KH7 ‘titanics’ They lived a historic day this Thursday with a very special presentation at the Cocina Hermanos Torres Restaurant where precisely the famous chefs, who will face their first Titan, acted as hosts delighting the attendees with a spectacular menu.
And they will do it together with two authentic cycling legends such as Melcior Mauri, the team captain, and Abraham Olano, both already with several Titans on their legs and whose experience is essential to help the rest of the team’s components. Núria Picas, a living legend of ultra-distance racing who will run the mountain bike race for the third time and where she already knows what victory is; Josep Betalú, who won four consecutive editions of the Titan in 2016, 2017, 2018 and 2019 and the newcomers Laia Sanz, motorcycle and car driver, Lluc Crusellas, declared the best chocolatier in the world and Léster Fernández, cyclist with 80% of disability that prevents him from walking, will accompany the cook brothers on the adventure in the Moroccan desert from April 30 to May 5.
different expectations
All of them attended the presentation ceremony of the team and explained the different sensations they have a few days before embarking on a trip to Morocco to start what is a great adventure in the desert.
The great specialist Josep Betalú, who is coming out of a knee injury, acknowledged that despite this “on a psychological and technical level it is the Titan that I come to the most prepared”.
Laia Sanz explained that she will debut in the ebike category because “being the first time and without having been able to prepare one hundred percent, for now we will do it on ebike and in future editions we will see”. The pilot assured that “there are probably stones that greet me as I pass because I have raced there several times, but this time it will be different.”
Abraham Olano he recalled that “the experience you can have on a race bike has nothing to do with what you find in the Titan Desert” and recalled that “I don’t mind having to help my teammates even any participant in the test” .
Mauri, the ‘culprit’ of such a diversified team
Melcior Mauri, captain of the team, explains that “every year I tried to set up a project since 2007 and each year it grew until in 2017 with the sponsor KH7 and Esteve bicycles it became very big and we looked for people with more media coverage like Olano or Indurain. Last year we considered looking for people from other sectors and I met the Torres brothers and he proposed it to them, taking advantage of the fact that the ebike category was entering, ideal for people who cannot prepare as much”.
The emotion of the debut of the Torres brothers
The Torres brothers are extremely excited regarding this adventure: “We have spent time psyching ourselves up and preparing because it makes us very excited. These challenges are necessary for us to disconnect. We are not going to win it but we are going to try to finish it,” explains Sergio.
For his part, Javier acknowledges thatand “they have seduced us. We had the illusion of one day going to the Titan and everything has turned out. We are going to enjoy it a lot”.
The two explain that they have always ridden by bicycle and that they currently commute by bicycle from Collserola, where they live: “It works well for us to de-stress. It cleanses us, we see everything more clearly, we really like contact with nature. We take herbs, flowers, everything that we find attractive to implement in the kitchen”.
