Twenty goals in number, included in the National Demographic Action Plan that was presented to the recent cabinet and are divided into five axes.
The aim, according to ertnews, is to boost birth rates which are still declining but also to manage rapid aging.
The latest population census showed a 25% increase in the over-60 population and a 132% increase in over-80s.
Projections embedded in the plan show that by 2070, the largest population group will be people aged over 90 years.
Among the 17 Family support actions, are included:
more places in nurseries
reinforcement of the Neighborhood Babysitters
establishment of daycare centers in workplaces or provision of vouchers
business incentives for parental benefits
lifetime status for triplets
From 2025, the monthly child benefit will also increase to 75 or 45 euros per child for a beneficiary with up to two children and to 150 or 90 euros for families with 3 or more.
The movable and immovable property limits introduced for the first time in order for families in real need to receive the allowance will also be finalized soon.
The demographic action plan covers all age groups:
For the youngest 15 to 29-year-olds, the weight is given to incentives to start a family, the expansion of housing programs and the financial support of parents
For the ages from 33 to 44 years old in vocational training in the interface with the labor market as well as in information about fertility and medically assisted reproduction
The aim of the demographic actions is, in the first phase, to put a stop to the free fall recorded in the number of births, but also to reverse the age pyramid, as according to estimates in Greece in 2070, women over 90 will be the most numerous group of the population , and the smallest children up to 4 years old.
