ESania Mirza from Hyderabad has an unparalleled achievement in the history of Indian tennis. Along with Mahesh Bhupathi and Rohan Bopanna, the player who gave India a title on the world tennis stage. The 36-year-old is all set to end her career following her golden years.

Sania had earlier stated that she will end her career by the end of 2022. But with an injury ahead of the US Open, the player changed his retirement plans. Now, Sania says that she is planning to end tennis with the Dubai Open in February this year. The Australian Open will be his last Grand Slam tournament, according to the note shared by the star on social media.

Sania says in the note that the struggle that started at the age of six has reached its final stage and her eyes are filled with tears and twenty years have passed. In the note, Sania clarified that she is very thankful to her family, team and coaches who have supported her in this career and this is the time when her son needs her the most.

Sania won the first Grand Slam title of her career with Mahesh Bhupathi in Australian Open mixed doubles. Her last Grand Slam was with Martina Hingis at Melbourne Park in 2016. In the meantime, the player has brought six Grand Slam titles to his account.

‘Thirty (yes, 30!) years ago, a six-year-old girl, studying at Nassar School in Hyderabad, walked into the tennis court at the Nizam Club with her mother. He argued with the coach to teach him to play tennis. The coach replied that she was too young. The struggle towards dreams thus began at the age of six.

My Grand Slam journey started with the 2005 Australian Open. So it goes without saying that this would be the perfect Grand Slam to end my career. I played the first Grand Slam 18 years ago. Now preparing to play the last Grand Slam. After that, Dubai will open in February. So many emotions are flashing through me. I am proud of all the achievements I have been able to achieve in the last 20 years of my professional career. I am very grateful to everyone.

Life must go on. I don’t see this as the end of anything. More memories await. This is just the beginning. Dreams must come true. Set new goals. This is the time when the baby needs me the most. I have to give him more time now than I have ever been able to give him. This is a new beginning. This match is also ready to be celebrated. Love’-says Sania in a long note shared on social media.

Sania will play in women’s doubles with Kazakhstan’s Anna Danil in this Australian Open. India’s Rohan Bopanna will also play in mixed doubles.
