It was supposed to disappear in 2021. It will continue to be applied until further notice.
The transition to summer time will take place this weekend on the night of Saturday 26 to Sunday 27 March. At exactly two o’clock, the clocks will have to be put forward one hour, which means one hour less sleep. From this Sunday, the sun will rise and set later, to the delight of lovers of drinks on the terrace and evenings bathed in light.
The time change as we know it today in Belgium dates back to 1977. At the time, it was an invention aimed at enabling the population to save energy through natural lighting. . But the time change does not only make people happy. It is indeed more and more decried for its negative effects on our organism.
According to the detractors of the time change, putting back our clocks in winter and advancing them in winter would be at the origin of disturbances of our biological clock. Studies point to more serious effects. In 2016, researchers found that the number of heart attacks was higher on the Monday following the switch to summer time.
