The Tiger Team, Joe Biden’s team that fears a nuclear attack from Russia

The (even more) catastrophic scenario of a nuclear attack from Russia has been feared since the beginning of the war in Ukraine. Although on Tuesday, March 22, the Kremlin spokesman claimed that Russia would only use nuclear weapons in Ukraine in the event of an “existential threat”, world leaders are preparing. Jens Stoltenberg, NATO Secretary General announced that the Alliance would provide Ukraine with protective equipment once morest chemical, biological and nuclear threats and that it would also protect its forces deployed on the eastern flank once morest these threat.

In the event of a nuclear attack, how can populations be protected? In America, The New York Times reveals that Joe Biden has asked a team to develop scenarios for reacting to a chemical or nuclear attack launched by Russia. According to the American daily, this team meets three times a week to establish the most appropriate reactions from the United States and its allies. It would also work on possible responses to an attack by Russia on a NATO territory, or a country in Eastern Europe (Moldova or Georgia, for example). These scenarios would be discussed this Thursday in Brussels, during the NATO summit.

On its website, the Belgian National Crisis Center indicates that some citizens have gone to pharmacies in recent days to ask for iodine tablets. “The situation in Ukraine is being closely monitored by the Belgian and European authorities, in particular by the Federal Agency for Nuclear Control (AFCN)”assures the Crisis Center. “This situation does not currently represent any danger to the health of Belgian citizens. Having stable iodine tablets in this context is therefore not necessary. Especially since the potential emission of radioactive iodine does not concern nuclear power plants. ‘being no longer in operation, such as the Chernobyl nuclear power plant.”
