“The Tiger Mosquito Invasion: Tracking its Spread Across Mainland France”

Observed in mainland France since 2004, the tiger mosquito appeared in Côte-d’Or from 2018. And the insect, closely monitored because it can be a virus vector, has since colonized around twenty municipalities. It is present today in a significant way in the department.

In 2018, it was in Couchey, Talant, Genlis and Beaune that it was observed then, in 2019, in Dijon, Fontaine-lès-Dijon and Gevrey-Chambertin. The following year, only one other commune was colonized, that of Longvic.

Strong growth between 2021 and 2022

But between 2021 and 2022, its presence has experienced strong growth with thirteen new municipalities in its field of action: Til-Châtel, Savigny-lès-Beaune, Chenôve, Bligny-les-Beaune, Montagny-lès-Beaune, Vignoles, Marsannay-la-Côte, Brochon, Fixin, Perrigny-lès-Dijon, Saint-Apollinaire, Chorey-lès-Beaune and Pommard.

At the national level, this evolution is even more visible. We can say it: the tiger mosquito has invaded mainland France since 2004. First observed in the south east, it has spread to all regions. In 2022, only a few departments had not yet been colonized, including Yonne, Marne and Haute-Marne.
